Nursing In Public

Q: I'm worried about breastfeeding my baby outside my home?  What if I make someone uncomfortable, or if I am asked to leave?  What if I am too shy to nurse in the mall?

A:  Anywhere you go outside your home, you should be able to nurse your baby.  Millions of babies have been nursed in shopping centres, restaurants, toy stores, airplanes, hockey games, playgrounds, churches and yes, even at in-laws homes.  Breastfeeding in public is becoming more and more acceptable.  No one person or management has the right to tell you to leave their establishment, to feed your baby in the bathroom, or to stop nursing because you are making other customers uneasy.  It is *your* baby's right to eat, and it is your responsibility as your baby's advocate to speak up for your baby's right to breastfeed when he is hungry.  Check out our "Advocacy" page for more information and stories on breastfeeding's place in society and the media.
